PATHS is a volunteer group of parents and teachers who work together to support the development of our school. PATHS is a vital part of Greene Hill culture and is actively involved in everything from the school library to community outreach. Some committees work primarily on event planning and fundraising and are active for only a short time. Other committees such as Diversity and Community Service are ongoing throughout the year. We encourage all Greene Hill parents to participate in PATHS.
PATHS committees include: Building, Community, Diversity, Gardening, Grandparents & Friends, Greene Affair, Technology, Library, Out Reach and Social Justice.
Building: Our committee helps with general building maintenance and repair projects in and around the school. We also assist with school event set up and take down.
Diversity: Our committee organizes activities and special events on topics that increase diversity awareness among all members of the school community. We also aim to provide ample information to students and families regarding citywide and local cultural events, in order to foster community participation and cognizance. Additionally, our committee seeks to create a warm, inclusive environment and culture of equity so that students and families feel they belong regardless of race, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation or difference. We meet on the Thursday mornings during the week of scheduled “All School Sings”, at 8:30am in the library. All are welcome to join!
Gardening: The gardening committee brings students, parents and teachers together in the GHS garden to enjoy an array of activities from planting projects to compost care to regular garden watering. Parents meet throughout the year to keep the garden thriving and the garden projects growing. This space can help the community explore the natural world and our connection to it.
Last year the committee organized a fundraising effort to raise money for the meadow lawn which was installed for Earth Day 2018. With the help of every class in the school, from the 4s to the 8th grade, we transformed over 500 square feet of dirt into a luscious garden complete with a stone path. The lawn incorporates native grasses, wild strawberries and autumn ferns.
This year the gardening committee will organize planting projects with the classes to include more meadow lawn grasses, bulb planting for spring tulips, edible container gardening and much more!
Library: The Library Committee oversees the GHS library. We keep the library running on a day to day basis by reshelving books, setting up book displays, tracking overdue notices and keeping the library orderly. We also curate the library collection by ordering new books for the general collection, working with GHS teachers and staff to order books for the all school study and classroom work using our annual NYSTL funds. We catalog all new books for the library and help teachers maintain their classroom libraries. We also coordinate the annual fork + pencil book fair at the school each May.
